Great Pyrenees Breed

 

The Pyrenean Mountain Dog or Great Pyrenees is a large, thickly coated, and immensely powerful working dog bred to keep goats and sheep safe from predators such as coyotes, bears, wolves, or fishers. 

 

Anatolian Shepherd Breed

 

The Anatolian Shepherd is a strong livestock guardian breed that originated from the peninsula of Anatolia, which today forms a large portion of Turkey. The Anatolian Shepherd tends to be slightly smaller than the Great Pyrenees but makes up for it in attitude. 

 

Mazikeen "Maiz"

Maiz joined the homestead labor day weekend of 2020. She has been growing quickly and learning fast. She is 75% Great Pyrenees and 25% Anatolian Shepherd. She has grown quite attached to Nick and is learning her job as a livestock guardian to the goats.

Her name Mazikeen, Maiz for short,  is from the DC Comic story of Lucifer Morningstar. In the comic, Mazikeen is a powerful demon, consort of Lucifer, and one of the lilim. The lilim is a race of fearsome and skilled warriers. Maiz's job on homestead is to be a warrior defending the farm and herd from any potential harm.
