Volunteer on the homestead

At H&M Homestead, there is always something to be worked on. Do you have the desire to bottle feed baby goats? Stay with does about to kid? Do you have construction skills?

Kids

Have you ever wanted to spend the evening feeding baby goats? If so, we would love the help. During the kidding season, there is always a lot to be done. Some does will not properly take care of their kids so the kids need a little extra help. That's where we come in. We need to make sure the kid is getting enough to eat and attention. The little baby goats need a LOT of human interaction at an early age to become comfortable around people and well-behaving adult goats. The more attention and handling a baby goat has the better it will be in the show ring, with kids, or with other goats in the herd.

If you are interested in helping socialize and take care of baby goats, please reach out to us today.

Kidding

While most times kiddings go very smoothly, we always like to be close by just in case a kid isn't coming out quite right or if the doe isn't maintaining stamina. We may be a little overly cautious when it comes to kidding, but we care for our girls and want to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible for them.

We ask if you have experience with kiddings and are interested in volunteering to please reach out. If you do not have experience with kiddings, but are interested in helping in the future, please reach out to us as we would love to share this joyous moment with you and train you to be a doe caretaker for future kiddings.

Construction, Farm Maintenance, etc.

On the homestead, there is always a project to be tended. It could be putting a new roof on a building, siding an outbuilding, building a cattle shelter, painting, running new fence, or mending existing fence.

If you have ever wanted to get a taste of what it is like to work on a farm, we would welcome the extra hands and we can teach you most of the trades necessary to keep this homestead rolling forward. If we don't know how to do something, we will figure it out and keep on going to the next adventure.
